This Visiting Fellowship Program is organized by the Center for Universal Education (CUE) at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC. The program lasts for six months, with participants spending two months in their home country and four months in Washington, DC. The goal of the Echidna Global Scholar Program is to enhance the capabilities of leaders, particularly from developing nations, in advancing gender equality through education in the Global South. During the fellowship, selected scholars will engage in individual research focused on improving educational opportunities and life outcomes for girls, young women, and individuals who do not identify strictly as male or female, while gaining a comprehensive understanding of gender and global education challenges. This fellowship is fully funded, covering all expenses in the USA.

Financial Benefits

This is a Fully Funded Short-term Fellowship for 4 Months in the USA, not a full-time position. The Echidna Global Fellowship includes:

Fellowship Duration

Duties

• Pre-Residency (2 months): Scholars will engage in remote work from their home countries.

• Residency (4 months): Scholars will reside and collaborate at The Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C.

• Research and Policy: Scholars will perform comprehensive research, draft policy papers, and share their findings at Brookings events.

• Capacity Building: Scholars will take part in leadership development initiatives and other capacity-building programs.

• Post-Residency Project: Scholars will create a project aimed at continuing their research and making an impact upon their return home.

• Professional Networking: Scholars will connect with Brookings scholars, policymakers, and the wider global development community.

Eligibility Requirements

• Applicants from the Global South region are welcome to apply.

• Candidates should possess a background in education, gender studies, women’s studies, international development, public policy, economics, or a related field in social sciences or humanities.

• A minimum of 10 years of professional experience is essential.

• A strong commitment to enhancing education and life outcomes for girls, young women, and gender non-conforming individuals is required.

• The program seeks professionals with significant experience in the Global South.

• A Master’s degree is mandatory.

• Applicants who have not previously concentrated on gender equality and education are encouraged to apply, provided they outline how they intend to integrate this focus into their future endeavors.
